Phil Ivey has been labeled as the greatest poker player on the planet by quite a few of the top-ranked pros. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to Jersey before reaching the age of one. His grandfather taught him one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was addicted to poker and wanted to learn every little thing he possibly could about poker. Phil routinely told his elders that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil did not let the adverse comments from others kill his dream of becoming one of the greatest poker competitors in the world.
Phil began competing seriously after getting a false ID with the name of Jerome. He honed his game at the casinos of Atlantic City. The beginning number of years for him were a learning experience and coming away with a win was not a normal thing at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he achieved two final tables and won his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the last table he defeated quite a few of the well known professionals including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He made a decision to take his game to the next level and moved out west to Vegas. Phil continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Ivey credits his success to hard work and a continuing passion for the game of poker. He states that he’s picking up skills every day and is quite abashed about his success. He admits to making mistakes in each session of poker and always strives to improve.
Although Ivey has come first in some big-time tournaments, he favors winning money games on a normal basis.
