No-Limit Hold’em Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?

Phil Ivey has been referred to as the best poker competitor on the planet by most of the top pros. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and moved to Jersey before reaching turning one. His grandpa introduced him to one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was addicted to poker and wanted to pickup whatever he could about poker. Phil routinely would tell his grandparents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil didn’t allow the detrimental comments from others kill his goal of being one of the greatest poker competitors on the planet.

He began competing intently after getting a false ID by the name of Jerome. He sharpened his techniques at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The beginning few years for Phil were a learning period and coming away with a win wasn’t a common thing at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he achieved two final tables and won his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the last table he defeated many of the well known professionals including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil decided to take his skills to the next level and moved out west to Las Vegas. He continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Phil credits his achievements to discipline and a continuing love for poker. Phil states that he’s learning every single day and is very abashed about his achievements. He knows he makes errors in each game of poker and constantly strives to improve.

Despite the fact that Ivey has come first in some large tournaments, he favors destroying money games on a regular basis.
