Web High Stakes Poker- Gus Hansen

Gus Hansen had a wonderful year on the WPT where he was the only participant to achieve closing table in three of the tournaments. Gus Hansen has been seen on High Stakes Poker on The Game Show Network where he paid $400, 000 to play. You might recall one of the largest pots in high stakes poker history competing against Daniel Negreanu. Gus raked in a huge pot with quads against Daniel’s full house. Gus has earned many televised poker appearances and is considered to be one of the best bettors anywhere in the world. While gambling on online poker, a different side of Hansen has emerged. Gus regularly competes in the 200/400 NL maximum buy in of Forty Thousand dollars. Hansen frequently buys in for the minimum of $16, 000 and plays very poorly. He sits there waiting for a decent hand and then pushes all-in. I believe Gus is an outstanding poker player but certainly not even close to the regular players at 200/400NL. Unless he is bankrupt, he has little or no reason to settle at the game with the minimum buy-in.

Buying in for the min takes almost all of the expertise out of big stack poker. Gus is assumed to be one of the greatest players in the world but he can’t buy-in for the full amount. I believe tv can skew our view of the real world sometimes. The best poker players in the world might just be guys you have never heard of before. Gus can be found participating in online poker on Full Tilt. He generally competes in high stakes Omaha and hold’em. Gus has proven himself as a tournament player. Can he use his talents in cash games?
