Online High Stakes Poker- Who is Gus Hansen?
by Bo on Thursday, November 24th, 2022
Gus Hansen experienced a wonderful year on the WPT where he was the only one to make it to the closing poker table in 3 of the competitions. Gus Hansen has been seen on High Stakes Poker on GSN where he paid $400, 000 to play. You might remember one of the largest pots in high stakes poker history competing against Daniel Negreanu. He raked in a large pot with quads against Negreanu’s full house. Hansen has earned many tv poker appearances and is deemed to be one of the strongest enthusiasts in the world. While betting on web poker, a different side of Hansen has appeared. Gus frequently competes in the 200/400 No Limit maximum buy in of $40, 000. Hansen generally buys-in for the minimum of $16, 000 and plays very poorly. He waits patiently for a decent hand and then goes all-in. I accept that Gus is an outstanding poker player but certainly not even close to the familiar players at 200/400no limit. Unless Gus is flat broke, he has absolutely no reason to settle at the table with the min buy in.
Playing for the minimum takes most of the ability out of big stack poker. Hansen is assumed to be 1 of the best poker players anywhere in the world but he cannot buy in for the total amount. I believe tv can alter our view of the real world sometimes. The greatest poker players in the world could be players you have never heard of before. Gus can be seen competing in internet poker on Full Tilt. He generally plays in big stakes omaha eight-or-better and texas hold’em. Gus Hansen has proven himself as a tournament player. Can he back up his talents in cash games?
