by Bo on February 21st, 2022
Phil Ivey has been branded as the best poker contender on the planet by most of the top-ranked pros. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and moved to Jersey before his first birthday. His grandpa showed him to one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was addicted to poker and wished to discover anything he possibly could about the game. He would tell his elders that he was planning on being a professional poker player. He didn’t let the negative comments from others destroy his goal of becoming one of the strongest poker competitors in the world.
Phil began competing intently after getting a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He practiced his abilities at the casinos of Atlantic City. The initial number of years for Phil were a teaching period and coming away with a win wasn’t a common outcome at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 WSOP where he achieved two final tables and won his first WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the last table he destroyed quite a few of the better known pros including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He made a decision to take his skills to the successive level and moved out west to Las Vegas. Phil continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Phil credits his success to discipline and a continuing love for poker. Phil states that he is learning every single day and is incredibly humble about his accomplishments. He admits to making mistakes in each session of poker and always aspires to get better.
Although Ivey has won some big-time tournaments, he prefers destroying money games on a normal basis.
