Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha 8 or better) is commonly seen as one of the most complex but favored poker games. It’s a game that, even more than normal Omaha poker, aims for play from every level of players. This is the primary reason why a once obscure game, has expanded in acceptance so rapidly.

Omaha hi low begins exactly like a normal game of Omaha. Four cards are given out to each player. A sequence of betting ensues where gamblers can wager, check, or fold. Three cards are given out, this is known as the flop. Another round of wagering ensues. After all the players have either called or folded, an additional card is revealed on the turn. an additional sequence of betting ensues and then the river card is flipped. The players must attempt to put together the strongest high and low 5 card hands based on the board and hole cards.

This is where a few players often get flustered. Contrasted to Texas Holdem, in which the board can be every player’s hand, in Omaha Hi-Lo the player must utilize exactly three cards from the board, and exactly two cards from their hand. Not a single card more, not a single card less. Contrary to normal Omaha, there are 2 ways a pot could be won: the "higher hand" or the "low hand."

A high hand is just what it sounds like. It is the strongest hand out of every player’s, regardless if it is a straight, flush, full house. It is the identical concept in almost all poker games.

A lower hand is more complex, but certainly opens up the play. When figuring out a low hand, straights and flushes don’t count. the lowest hand is the weakest hand that can be made, with the lowest being made up of A-2-3-4-5. Since straights and flushes don’t count, A-2-3-4-5 is the lowest value hand possible. The low hand is any 5 card hand (unpaired) with an 8 and smaller. The low hand wins half of the pot, as does the high hand. When there’s no low hand available, the higher hand takes the whole pot.

Although it seems difficult at the outset, after a few rounds you will be able to get the base nuances of the game easily enough. Seeing as you have people wagering for the low and betting for the high, and seeing as so many cards are being used at once, Omaha 8 or better provides an exciting range of wagering options and owing to the fact that you have several players shooting for the high hand, and a few shooting for the low hand. If you enjoy a game with a plethora of outs and actions, it’s not a waste of your time to participate in Omaha 8 or better.
