Howard Lederer lived in a family of 5 where he loved playing different card games when he was young. He discovered himself becoming really aggressive in these particular card games as he was playing his father. After graduating from secondary school, Howard decided to put higher education on hold for a little while and moved away to New York City to compete in some serious chess. While participating in chess, he was brought in to a poker game going on in the rear of the room. Howard’s first 2 years were rough as he played many hours and don’t win a majority of the time. He earned some additional money by becoming an runner for the poker enthusiasts. He believed he could boost his game by analyzing his life outside of poker. He made an attempt to get more rest and concentrate more on the game.

The definite advancement in his skills happened when he started betting at the Mayfair Club in New York City. The Mayfair was a bridge and backgammon association where the best players would often challenge one another. Howard was able to access a number of the best minds in chess. With their help, Howard Lederer would hone his strategic thinking skills. Howard applied these strategic concepts to the game of NL Texas Holdem.

Howard also helped his sibling Annie Duke learn poker. Annie Duke was an excellent student of the game as she would always be asking questions about how to make the correct choice. Howard Lederer told Annie Duke to head out to Vegas and compete in the WSOP tournaments. Annie Duke is one of the best female players the poker world today. He moved to Las Vegas in Nineteen Ninety Three and played money games for the following decade. When the WPT grew in popularity, Howard decided to compete in more tournaments.
