Internet High Stakes Poker- Who is Gus Hansen?
by Bo on April 20th, 2016
Gus Hansen enjoyed a marvelous year on the WPT where he was the only player to make it to the closing poker table in 3 of the competitions. Gus Hansen has appeared on High Stakes Poker on GSN where he bought into the game for $400, 000. You might recall one of the largest pots in big stakes poker history competing against Daniel Negreanu. Gus raked in a large pot with 4 of a kind against Negreanu’s full house. Hansen has made many televised poker appearances and is considered to be one of the strongest players in the world. While playing internet poker, another side of Hansen has been seen. Gus frequently competes in the 200/400 NL maximum buy in of $40, 000. Gus frequently buys-in for the min of $16, 000 and plays very weak. He sits there waiting for a good hand and then pushes all in. I know Gus is a great poker player but not even close to the regular players at 200/400no limit. Unless he is bankrupt, he has no reason to play at the table with the min buy-in.
Buying in for the min takes most of the ability out of big stack poker. Hansen is presumed to be one of the best poker players anywhere in the world but he can’t buy in for the full dollar value. I think tv can skew our view of the real world sometimes. The greatest poker players anywhere in the world may be guys you have won’t have heard of before. Gus can be found wagering on web poker on Full Tilt. He commonly plays in high stakes omaha high and hold’em. Gus has proven himself as a tournament player. Can he use his abilities in money rounds?
