Stu is regarded by most to the finest NL Texas hold em Poker gambler ever.
The 3 time World Poker Champ was born in New York in ‘53 and started playing poker prior to becomming a teenager.
The young bettor began betting gin and at the age of 10 had won his very first gin rummy tournament, while on vacation with his mother and father. By the age of fourteen the small poker genius had become a professional and dropped out of school.
In 1954 Stu Ungar entered the record books by succeeding 10,000 dollars in a gin tournament without losing a single hand, a record which still stands in New York these days.
The quick talking wiz kid has been likened, in poker terms, to athletic greats such as Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant. Stu had a genuine talent for playing poker except despite his successes in Hold em poker, he preferred wagering gin.
Stu once said that there might some day be a far better No Limit Texas hold’em gambler than him except he could not see how anyone could ever be a far better gin gambler.
In ‘80 Stu was put on the world map as one of the finest Holdem Poker gamblers in the planet when he was crowned World Poker Champion for the 1st time. Astonishingly it was the first time he had entered the tournament.
The following year he put aside any thoughts that it had been a fluke, by effectively protecting his crown. And in ‘97 Stu set the record by succeeding his third World poker championship.
Except this poker legend also struggled with substance abuse and a year after winning his third title Stu past away in his hotel room. According to medical doctors, he had died from cardiac arrest which was brought on by his lifestyle.
Stu Ungar had started with nothing except his ability and talent for the casino game which made this poker good a millionaire numerous times over.
