Hold em Poker : Semi-Bluffing and Defensive Gambling
by Bo on January 20th, 2013
Seems like most individuals are constantly talking about pre-flop method, so I wanted to speak a bit about how I bet on immediately after the flop. Possibly I can help others, or perhaps they’ve got advice to improve my play.
I believe that 2 of the most critical plays right after the flop are the semi-bluff and the defensive wager. That is because these are the plays you produce if you havent hit a hand except you could have a fine drawing hand. Its easy to play a hand when you flop a monster. Except I think that these 2 are the best methods to bet on a drawing. Each one is wagered depending on you challenger(s) and your postion. So here’s how I play it, so tell me what you think.
Early Position – Tight Competitors:
A semi-bluff works fairly effectively in this position. Arrive out gambling and if a tight gambler didn’t hit a hand he’ll probably lay down, and if he is unsure you might have a call. Except watch out, if that tight gambler comes back over the best it may perhaps be time to get away.
Early Placement – Loose Competitors
This can be had been I like to perform a defensive wager. Determine how a lot of chips you might be willing to risk on your draw and wager. It is normally a much smaller bet than regular. It’s been my understanding that the loose player will usually just call a wager rather than re-raise. On the other hand, if you check to them, theyre a lot more likely to throw in a lot more chips than your willing to pay.
Late Position – Tight Opponents
It is the ideal time to complete a semi-bluff, specifically if most of the table checks. If that’s the case you’ll probaly pick up the pot now. If a gambler before has bet, you’ve got to determine if he has a hand or not. If not, then reraise and he’ll probably go away since he was trying to steal the pot. In case you feel he does, properly then it is time to calculate your odds, and come to a decision if the pot odds are worth the call.
Late Placement – Loose Opponents
This one can be a bit challenging, simply because it’s tougher to put a loose player on a hand. And if your in late placement against loose player, chances are they have already wager. That is were I usually make a decision to take a chance and are available back over the best of them and pray they don’t call, and if they do, properly then its time to gamble. Odds are although even a loose player will go away in the event you appear back strong enough.
Don’t forget though that these are moves I only make immediately after the flop comes and I have a decent drawing hand (usually not a gutshot either). Maybe four to the flush or the open ended straight, for instance.
