Poker chips have been made from a varied selection of materials in an almost infinite selection of variations since the creation of wagering and the requirement to keep track of winnings. The most common components used at this time in the manufacture of modern poker chips are plastic, clay composite, and acrylics. Clay chips, the primary of the bunch, have been manufactured in America since the late 1800s.

Back in the 1800s, poker players seemed to use any tiny valuable item imaginable. Early poker players at times employed jagged gold pieces as well as chips – chiefly manufactured of wood and clay. By the 20th century, poker chip designs started to enjoy a greater prominence, and the smooth sides of older chips gave way to chips with ridges to hold them neatly stacked together.

There is little or no doubt that poker has increased constantly in universal appeal since its beginnings in the 19th century. With the huge growth of web gambling and specialty TV shows, community appeal in poker has feed the fire a lot faster than ever before. Many people are first introduced to poker by TV showslike "Celebrity Poker" or "Poker After Dark," and most will participate in their 1st hands online. Despite internet poker’s growth, nothing replaces the feeling of shuffling weighty clay poker chips in your hand, tossing chips into the center of a casino table, or stacking high pilesstacks of chips after displaying a victorious hand.
