Phil Ivey has been referred to as the best poker player in the world by many of the top pros. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to New Jersey before reaching turning 1. His grandpa taught him one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was addicted to poker and wished to discover whatever he could about the game. Phil routinely told his grandparents that he was planning on being a professional poker player. He did not let the detrimental feedback from other people kill his dream of becoming one of the greatest poker players in the world.
He started playing seriously after getting a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He practiced his abilities at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The first number of years for him were a learning experience and coming away with a win was not a normal outcome at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he made two final tables and came away with his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the closing table he defeated quite a few of the better known pros which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil made a decision to take his game to the next level and headed out west to Sin City. He continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Phil credits his achievements to dedication and an immeasurable passion for the game of poker. Phil states that he is learning every day and is quite humble about his achievements. He knows he makes errors in each game of poker and constantly aspires to improve.
Although Phil has won some large tournaments, he favors destroying money games on a regular basis.
